The ASE Change Log lets you easily document changes to your script with simple prompts that may be displayed when you close a script
Either for specific scripts, or all scripts, you can have ASE prompt you for a reason for changes. Choose a reason for the change using a configurable drop-down list and enter an optional description. A description may even be required of the user based on ASE option settings.
Change log entries are inserted into a collapsed region at the top of the script which can provide much needed documentation for modifications to production scripts.
Access Script Properties (see image below) from by right clicking on a tab and choosing "Properties". Here you can control if your script will prompt for change log entries on close on a "per script" basis
You can also choose more options for the Change Log in ASE Options under "Formatting" including:
- Adding or changing categories
- Modify the layout of change log entries using variables: $User$, $Domain$, $Date$, $Time$, $ChangeType$, and $ChangeDescription$
- You can also enforce change log prompts for all scripts and even require a description of the change been entered before allowing the script to close.
